Our company founder, Colin White has worked in the building industry for more than 30 years. Having run his own business for many years managing small build projects, he decided to start Charlew out of a desire to create high-quality homes with excellent value for money.
We pay attention to detail in every home we create, embracing the latest technologies to ensure our homes are built to the highest specifications possible.
Not only are our homes high quality, but also energy efficient.
With sustainability in mind, we take every opportunity to include elements such as PV panels, heat source pumps, and smart meters, for example.
It is also really important to us that we use local companies and trades to help provide employment in the area, and wherever possible we source local materials.

Our team
Colin White
Owner/Director
Colin originally worked for a Family Builders Merchant where he progressed to become its youngest Senior Branch Manager. At the age of 30 he decided to build his own house. This encouraged him to start Project Managing small developments. In 2003 he set up Charlew Developments and has been steadily growing the business. In November 2020 he moved the Company in to the New offices he has built in Mannings Heath Road. Colin is happy to see the Company growing from strength to strength.
Tom Slaughter
Director & Land Buyer
Tom is a trained electrician. After a move to Dorset he went into Site Management. Following a desire to become a Property Developer he Project managed his own New Build Home. He then progressed on to buying land and selling New Build Homes. He joined Charlew Developments 4 years ago and is responsible as the Company land buyer for acquiring new sites. Tom also assists Colin with the running of the Company, and in 2021 was appointed joint Directorship.
Lynne Smith
Head of Sales and Marketing
Lynne began her career as a Computer Analyst. She gained her Bookkeeping and Accounts Qualifications at Brighton University. After moving into New Homes she worked for a small local developer and was promoted to Sales Manager. She then worked for a couple of PLC Developers to grow her experience. Wanting to return to a small local Company she worked for a couple of Developers in Kent, eventually being promoted to Sales and Marketing Director. Making the decision to move to Dorset she began working for Charlew Developments in February 2021 and is looking forward to helping develop the Sales Department.
Eddie Willis
Contracts Manager
After leaving school Eddie quickly worked his way up through the ranks in the building industry starting out as a bricklayer. He quickly got promoted to the position of Bricklaying Foreman by the age of 25. In his early thirties he decided to start up his own Bricklaying Company which he ran successfully for 10 years completing various commercial and domestic projects. After making the decision to return to work for local developers he resumed his role as Bricklaying Foreman and then progressed on to Site Management. He joined Charlew Developments in July 2021 as Contracts Manager bringing over 30 years of construction knowledge and will be overseeing all of our developments.
Charlie Hoare
Office Manager / HR and Recruitment
Charlie has gained her wealth of experience working in several roles since leaving school mainly in Recruitment and HR. She has gained her CIPD qualification in Human Resources. Charlie then decided to join her dad, Colin in the family business to help him grow the company to become the success it is today. She is responsible for HR, Recruitment and the office management at Charlew Developments.
Lewis White
Site Manager
Lewis initially trained as a carpenter via the apprenticeship Scheme. He joined the family firm Charlew Developments and to gain on the ground experience started working on site. To broaden his horizons, he then started working for a concrete Company. With his newly gained knowledge he returned to Charlew Developments as a Site Manager and is working his way through all aspects of the business to develop and grow his skills in construction.
Lyn Hopkins
Bookkeeper
Lyn began her working life as an accounts clerk in the health service. After realising this was the career path she wanted to follow, she moved into the motor industry and worked her way up to become the Finance Director over her 21 years service. Before joining Charlew Developments Lyn worked as a Financial Controller/Office Manager for several Companies. She joined Charlew Developments in 2020 and is excited to be involved in the growth of the Company.
